India’s 80th Independence Day on 15th August 2026,  Shri Virendra R Tiwari, IFS(Retd), Chairman, National Biodiversity Authority hoisted the National Flag and delivered the Chief Guest address at TICEL Bio Park, Chennai. Dr.B.Balaji IFS, Member Secretary, National Biodiversity Authority graced the event. Prizes were given to the winners for the competitions held as part of the Har Ghar Tiranga

The World Day to Combat Desertification is annually observed on 17th June with an aim to strengthen the visibility of the dry lands issue and to highlight the need to curb desertification process.

Agenda World Day to Combat Desertification (17 June) is observed to raise awareness about desertification, promote sustainable land management, and encourage collective action to restore degraded land and protect natural resources.

The United Nations has proclaimed May 22 The International Day for Biological Diversity (IDB) to increase understanding and awareness of biodiversity issues. When first created by the Second Committee of the UN General Assembly in late 1993, 29 December (the date of entry into force of the Convention of Biological Diversity), was designated The International Day for Biological Diversity. In December 2000, the UN General Assembly adopted 22 May as IDB, to commemorate the adoption of the text of the Convention on 22 May 1992 by the Nairobi Final Act of the Conference for the Adoption of the Agreed Text of the Convention on Biological Diversity. 

Agenda International Day for Biological Diversity (22 May) is observed to raise awareness about the importance of biodiversity and to promote its conservation for a sustainable future.
